Postby Biff » Mon Sep 28, 2015 9:03 am

Morning, I'd like to sort/investigate the indicator non-cancelling problem on my D.
Anyone kind enough to let me borrow their steering wheel puller.
Of-course, I'll paypal postage costs.
Cheers m' dears.

Hi Guys

Could someone bring one please? I would like to move my wheel round a spline or two.

I have had the car aligned (Hunter), but it would appear that perhaps the wheel was not *quite* centre when it was done.

I understand I should probably do this at the TRE's, but as it tracks perfectly, and handles well now, I would rather not cock it up and just move the wheel... (tho I haven't actually checked the turns lock to lock, so it may just be that the wheel is in fact a spliine or two out...)

Norfolk would be ideal... Anyone know the nut size??

More beer to buy!

Cheers

You'll not get nearly the same degree of finality in trying to adjust alignment through moving splines on the wheel, or the shaft for that matter either.

Adjustment is much more subtle doing it the correct way. As you say, at the TRE's and rack adjustment. I'm sure you'll just be faced with frustration trying to do it through the wheel. The fact you need a heavy duty tool to free off the wheel should be indication enough that this is not the way to do it. Anyway, you're obviously fully aware.

Good luck.

Am I right in thinking that as long as I turn each track rod (in the right direction!) by the same number of turns (in the right direction) then the front wheels will remain correctly positioned in relation to the rears??

And how do I know that the steering wheel is correct on the splines? By counting the lock to lock, dividing by 2, and thats centre?

Finally, am I right in thinking that once the lock nuts are loosened, I can just turn the track rods? I dont need to break the taper and actually turn the TRE do I??

Cheers

If a PO has messed with your steering wheel then you may have to reset it to get the indicators to cancel
Mine had been totally messed with and could not be done by adjusting the TREs
Any way as I said I have tool and any body that wants to borrow it at Norfolk is more than welcome

Rissy perhaps you can bring your tools and help out as well ?

Cheers
