Two weeks ago I decided to make the jump. I bought an iPhone.
8 days later it got a bit of water on it. The backlight stopped working.

I decided to return it to the shop.
Shopkeeper says: "No problem i'll send it in for repair and you'll have it back within 2 weeks".

Now I just got a letter telling me its water damage which is not covered by warranty. And if I just simply would pay up 275 euro's they'll repair it or send me a new one. Oh and it'll take no more than 2 weeks (read: allow at least 3 weeks for delivery).

Christ. The piece of shit just became 4 times as expensive. And that for only 6 lousy days of enjoying it.

It's just like my DeLorean - don't take it out in the rain.

Is it just the LCD that's gone? It will be cheaper to buy a new LCD and change it yourself. I dropped mine and had to change the glass touchscreen.

Only thing I noticed was that the backlight wasn't working. I am not sure if anything else is broken, but I am taking no chances with it and replace the fucker.

I've searched a bit on google and I only found suppliers for 1st gen or 3G replacement parts. What i've seen is that there is a large group of people with similar malfunctions because of water damage. Strangely, people have dropped in the toilet or spilled beer over it and got it to work again. I just spilled an empty glass of water (well you know theres always something left in the glass) and its entirely fucked. I am having second thoughts on the build quality of the thing. It has got the same build quality as any D.
