Are those seals and rings inside reusable? or should i preorder some just in case.

Part number 5 is the only seal that you will be disturbing ... it seals the top pump housing to the rest of the water pump. This seal goes over the 'edge' of the thermostat.

You could reuse if its still in good nick but really depends how old the thermostat and seal is .

Both might be worth replacing whilst your in there....

I've removed the thermostat housing and thermostat. I noticed that there must have been a lot of air inside because the top inside of the housing felt dry, and my garage floor wasn't soaked in coolant.

I'm not sure anymore, but i have the feeling is was installed upside down (??) Now if it were upside down, that would certainly explain a lot.

I checked the thermostats working by boiling it. It starts opening around 79C as by specification on the hardware, so that is working fine.

Anyways I had to remove the ram horns as well, but there a separate thread for that.

That black stuff on the thermostat looks like silicone sealant to me and not a 'proper' circular seal so telling me that thermostat has been out before ...

Which way in was the thermostat? ...should have been the circular plate on the end of the spring at the bottom ...

If its saying a different opening temperature to the stock 87 degrees C then that not an origional thermostat in my book ... that aside i dont think the differnce in temperatures will make a great deal of difference ... personally i would change it though ...

Was it this way around when you removed it?

It should also have a black sealing ring going around the outer lip of the thermostat.

Yes it had the ring on it which still is ok fortunately, but PO added some additional sealant so it was def taken apart.

Bad thing is- it doesn't fit upside down, i checked.

Even worse: I tried to drill out the stuck bleeding plug but theres no way i'm getting the remaining copper out without damaging the thread any further. The stuff is welded together. I am so sick of this and now I have to order a new #3 AND a #19.

Now theres no way i'll be joining the trip on next sunday.

Order the following at DMC EU to overhaul the cooling system
- SS Tank
- thermostat cover
- thermostat bleed nipple
- otterstat
- otterstat seal
- intake manifold gaskets

I hope they arrive by thursday or friday...

Its not an otterstat you need ... its a pump thermostat buddy

Also you need a pump bleed kit and not just an oem bleed nipple

Not entirely mike..

I have checked and found the thermostat in working order as you can see above post. Now I need the new top and bleeder nipple to replace the wrecked parts. While i am doing the cooling i'm replacing the old otterstat as well, and i'm doing the coolant bottle in one go.

I'm going for the bleed nipple instead of an autobleeder because i've got the feeling that all this problems are because the system was never properly bled. Something that cannot be found with an autobleeder
