Just removed the next 5 bits of water-hose. Another 4 hours on my back. By jove that old rubber is almost welded to the pipes. Old jubilees are a b*tch too. I really respect mechanics doing this every day.

Anyway, only 4 more to go, that is 2 in the middle (see below) and 2 small ones for the return pipes. So glad the intake is out. I felt too dirty to touch the camera/iPhone for pics so that'll have to wait.

By the way, what dude decided to fasten 2 jubilees JUST 2CM AFTER THE FLOOR panel? Now I have to remove the entire panel just to get the clamps off.

I had the same problem Rob when I did various jobs on my car. Then I realised when I did my frame restoration, that they put all the jubilee clips on before the body is on meaning they are all the wrong way round, if you now what I mean. When I rebuild it, I put them the other way so you could get a screwdriver on when the body was on

If you are replacing the old jubilee clips with new ones, you can use a dremel to cut the old ones off. Much quicker.

Thanks TT. That was when I did the VOD in 2006. I did what Rob is doing now i.e. all new hoses all around. I re-tapped and died the 7mm Y pipe bolts and did the thin smear of copper gease etc..

Thanks, it is a hard job, and I go slowly, but i have to do it, and I have no major problems (like bolts breaking, or tapping required) It feels like i am almost there. I am glad I am doing this now, and not when it's too late. After this the engine should be good for another couple of years to come.

In the image, I have marked the last bit of connections blue. I am thinking that if I loosen the jubilees at the radiator side, I should be able to move the red ones towards the back of the car so I can reach those last hoses without having to remove the floor panel (or tank plate). I just hope there are no more brackets inside.

Well I managed to get the blue bits off, the red ones wouldn't shift so they must be fastened somehow behind the tank plate. To get them loose, i loosened the tank plate sufficiently to get a tool in.

I also loosened the 2 pipes that go to the heater, tricky stuff because they are bundled with an air-conditioning line and I really don't want to damage that one. Also the jubilees were fastened from the top when the tub was not yet on the car.

I feel extremely satisfied now, because I can now start to replace all that crap with new hoses and jubilees. More bits of 30 year old crap in the bin!

As a final summary; all the pipes are clean and solid, no goo or gunk inside. No cracks, no damage. I won't even bother to repaint them, fack it. Only the small t-sections near the engine that controls the heater valve contained a little goo and rust on the outside, presumably from when I bled the clutch slave. I cleaned them thoroughly to stop it from corroding.

This would be the time to replace my clutch slave, if it was damaged.
