OK - same as me/us then - good!

You "essex" lot will meet down there somewhere (Bishops Stortford?), the East Anglian Massive will meet in Peterborough, then we are all going to meet at a secret location on the A14 - i.e. about 12-13 cars I think, early on the Thursday morning, then it's a 12-13 car 400 mile convoy all the way to Belfast. Details nearer the time.

Gez has just had a brilliant idea - a "breakdown sweepstake".

For the 12-13 car convoy from Kettering to Belfast, it seems fairly clear to me that if someone breaks down they are going to either be out completely or will have a fairly crap journey whatever happens - due to "having to get the ferry" I would guess that we wouldn't be able to wait around very long. A fuel pump change, for example, probably isn't going to happen (all depends on what sort of time we're making in the morning).

So how about we all put, say, £10 in the pot - whoever breaks down gets it, and goes towards making up for the crap day you're about to have! (In the case of multiple breakdowns you'd have to share of course), but at least you'd have each other!

It's an excellent idea - although I think we'd need to have some definitions as to what constitutes a breakdown too - stopping to fill up some leaking coolant doesn't count, but your coolant bottle exploding does

We were thinking there perhaps ought to be a 10 minute rule on breakdowns to avoid the entire convoy missing the ferry - if the cumulative skills of the convoy can't fix it in 10 minutes, it's the AA for you and the breakdown sweepstake to soften the blow!
