On my D the car starter motor stopped working all of a sudden. Typically this was after I had just overhauled my auto circuit board.

I took the starter motor off. The solenoid operated but the starter wouldn't spin.
I put the starter motor in a vice.
I used a jump start pack black lead on start motor casing and briefly touched the lower terminal with the jump start pack red lead. This spun the motor. Cause was a duff solenoid ie the copper strip had burnt out.
Why not try this, the solenoids are a weak point.

Have a few videos of 2456 attempting to start for the first time in around 7 years. Hopefully the next time I get a chance I will be more successful. When a few cylinders did fire it sounded awesome

THe thing is flooded at the minute but the timing is a lot better having advanced it. Mandie's uncle was helping me out and petrol found its way to the exhaust. First turn of the key and flames blew out both tail pipes. Quite dramatic! Mandie's uncle has a black circle on his knee where it caught him.

On the plus side he turned up in a black 500+ bhp Nissan GTR. Unbelievable motor!!!

Nearly got it going tonight but 2 cylinders short I think. Think I traced it to fuel on cylinders 5 and 6 as after checking the hoses No 5 started putting fuel to the cylinder constantly. Unfortunately I can't retry it until I sort that issue out as the cylinder is flooding. Anybody know much about carbs to sort this?

Bed for tonight.

Sorted out the cylinder flooding, the shut off valve wasn't closing fully in the top of one of the carb's. Still not starting though. Thought it was getting better advancing the timing but still not catching. As it is No 1 cylinder is puffing smoke back out the carb and there is the odd pop in the exhaust. Suggests to me there is fuel and spark but not at the right time. What do you think?

it sounds to me like the timing is well out matt, you get the same thing when its 180 degrees out, best way to check is...

when you look at the pulley you will have 2 marks one at 12 oclock one at 8 oclock the 12 is for number 1 cylinder, set it on 0 degrees on timing plate so when you look at it this is what you see face on, then check to see (after you have taken off the dizzy cap) that the rotor arm is in line with number 1 cylinder, there is a line cast on the top rim of the dizzy. Make sure these are lined up and you cant be too far away.

but if it is facing 180 degrees out ie the back of the rotor arm then you need to do one more full turn on the pulley and put it back on the 12 o'clock mark on o degrees on the timing plate then check the rotor lines up with the cast mark.

if this dont help i will post up pics to explain but inm sure you will be ok :D also make sure the over fueling hasn't killed the plugs TT
