And now it turns out it is also a great way to keep brake fluid from spilling on the road

My original plate was completely knackered thanks to this. The replacement had a hole drilled at each corner before powdercoating to try and prevent a repeat!

Any suggestions on the size of the holes? 3mm?

 Found the source of that brake fluid leak.

Leaky brake master cylinder to servo. All rusted up. Explains the low level of the fluid and the other bad stuff happening to the tank plate.

Nothing todo but to order a new master cylinder. No driving this weekend or the next... I will try to take out the servo as well give that a proper paint job.

At least that gives me a reason to install the new braided brake hoses. Well, all good things happen in three's.

We will get back to this minor issue after I recover from the news of the shooting in my country.

Brake servo rant continued:

After I took my brake servo out, I had some spare time before my new master cylinder arrives. I decided to start with the flexi brake lines in the front. Boy was I wrong to start that now.

#1. The old lines will not come out. The sockets attached to the frame were epoxied and that has now expanded to basically crush the flexi lines stuck in their sockets. (see dmctalk for old topics), any more pressure on the brackets and they bend or might break.

#2. The hex bits on the new hoses are too short. Even if I can get the old lines out, the new lines will spin in the sockets making it impossible to tighten the lines without messing up the hard lines.

On solution i've seen across the board would be to dremel off the epoxied nut from the brackets. Then I could fasten the new hoses using 2 spanners.

And that is only the front ones...
