Starglider wrote:Ok so this is coming along, just ordered the Spax shocks + Eibach springs + sway bar, three-row copper/brass rad with the sillicon hoses, some more electronic stuff (replacements for relays, PWM dimmer module so the LED dome lights dim properly), lots more little stainless steel bits (e.g. bonnet hinges, coil cover), some gratuitous toys (e.g. front + rear ultrasonic parking things). Considered galvanising the frame but the build is already pretty complicated, can always do that later, or maybe wait to see if someone makes a viable stainless frame. Car is starting to come together in Chris N's workshop; I think he even managed to get hold of the early style dash clock (love that stereotypically early 80s look).

Main thing that's missing is brakes, should probably use something better than stock them given the turbo engine. Was sorely tempted by Martin G's larger wheels, but IMHO they're just a bit too big to look credible as 80s wheels (even late 80s). Shame Welmoed's wheel project hasn't gone ahead, that spec looked ideal.

Mervyn from Ireland has some stainless steel frames made up. They look nice and neat.

No, got to ride in one when I was a bit younger but wasn't allowed to drive. :(

Have driven a Mk1 MR2 and assorted horrible 70s cars though so how much harder could it be. :)

Ha ha, nothing comes close, MR2 would be like a brand new car in comparison

I have to agree, for many years in my youf I had a 79 fixed head TR7. Even that POS was a very different animal to the D.

You really need to drive one.

They drive a lot better with the front lowered spring, Spax dampers and the geometry (4 wheel alignment including rear wheels set to the imaginary centre-line of the car) done correctly...

I don't think there is another car you will get noticed in more though !

Could I just chip in here .. And I mean this from being round DeLoreans a fair few years now .. But certainly less that a lot of people on here .. But I'm sure most will agree ...

1. Stick with what Chris N says and recommends

2. Forget turbo engines and go with a properly tuned stock engine .. You will have nothing but trouble otherwise ..

3.Seeing as you haven't driven one yet you are more than welcome to come out in mine .. Even with a 'ton O shit' on it it is quick and completely stock too ..

4. Please listen to what people say on here .. They all know what they are talking about :)

Regards

Mike
