When you get to recovering the seats, would you kindly take pictures and tell me how you did it?

further bench work:

Took drive axles apart for grease change.

My D had only 17K miles on the meter and that grease had become as hard as drying clay.
ANYBODY not sure when this job was done on yours no mater how many miles on your speedo, 30 year old grease in a semi airtight compartment like that can get sufficient for lubricating.

Please schedule your change as well. It is an easy job, yet time consuming and messy. Or just have a shop do it for you.

Here is the picture:
This one didn't look too bad. In fact it was the only one which the grease was still in good shape.

Did some on vehicle work as well.

Removed the windshield wiper water container

Notice the plug contacts. Need some WD-40 contacts spray

And secured that lower t-top body panels. First with some screws and further on with two stainless bolts that will go through the rood and secured under the rear head liners.

Sorry folks!
Was on a 10 day Vacation.
A few hours before my outbound flight... I did some further benchwork and cleaned the steering rack.
Wife was going nuts!!!

Got a call today from the shop and the engine overhauling is done.
Had a complete seal pack fly in for the job, from Germany off a German Alpine parts specialist.

More soon.

Ok, picked up my engine today... Cant' take any credit for it... Apart from the redit deducted from my account!!!:chairshot:
Most cash I have spent so far... Autsch!

Here are the images.

Block top (VOD has been filled with a special heat resistant paste / glue to cover all the corroded aluminum that made the block housing too thin at some places)

Not to forget, they removed a dozen rusted broken screws that were stuck in the block from the rusty manifold as well as other places around it.!!!

Quick reminder what it looked like:
