On to the evening news...

And and submerged into my darker quarters.
The Garage and the workshop at the bench.

Painted the D's top with a special antitrust frame paint first layer. (Sorry No pics...forgot but will catch up the day after tomorrow)

Then placed the front upper arm bushings I got from Josh @ DPI..
Everybody was curious how I would go about this job?
Well... I supposed this is a first for everybody in here eh?
Image

Looking good?

Now you'll get to see the arms after the sand blasting and power coating job. Not Stock colors but I love it.
Image

Image

How?

Ok. I just used my bench's clamp.
With a bit of lube and slowly working it into position. In the one side I covered the clamp's surface with a cardboard to avoid the "injury" of the bushing and on the other side I used a cylinder with a cloth to allow the metal side of the bushing to protrude.
Image

But... WHERE IS THAT CYLINDER FROM?
Image
It is none other than the front wheel's bearing Shel.

On to cleaning out the steering rack.
Image

That too has been powder painted

Again a quick reminder of the past situation:

Looking good. I remember doing those upper bushes when I did my car. How have you fixed them into the arms? I seem to remember the originals having a small weld tack to stop them rotating in the arm.

Very good point Dan! I was wondering if those would rotate after a while.
I will TIG spot weld those in 3 spots each just for Making sure!

Dan you are right! THIS IS GOOD FUN!

I know it's a cheezy thing to buy....

Image

But hey, for $40 total shipped from Germany, its a shame to let it go to waste. Most of those cost over $150

Need s bit pampering... ;)

And since I will never be using this apart for the effect. (I don't even own any VHS tapes)
this one is not functioning and he sold it for parts.
Paid his shipping and saved it from becoming spares. Now it will live on a glorious life as a movie prop

Sounds dangerous!
I bet today's airline policies would forbid taking it aboard.

Can't really call it a full day's job cause I only worked for a couple of hours on my steering rack replacing the two friction parts
Right, here are the originals next to the copies I made with poly.

Image
Right the melted filler cap knob left my replacement
Goes like this:

Then the centering cylinder that was ripped.
Left the original, right my poly repro
Image
notice how large the gaps are on the original. I believe the main reason is minimal friction cause it was made of hard rubber

I rounded up the sharp corners

the time has come where the word "disassembly" moved on to repair and is now replaced by "reassembly"..

I present you the 2nd and 3 complete part of 5992

The steering rack
Image
Refurbished inside out as you saw before. Sitting with brand new rod tie ends from our favorite eurotech store (thanx for a great service lads)

and the water pump
Image
Cleaned from the hellish goo that sat in there. Then replaced all gaskets and seals.
