Reliant Scimitar for Sale

Postby andyd » Sat May 24, 2014 5:27 pm

Hey guys

Sorry for the non-D post, but (in order to help the D  ) my very nice Scimitar has to go.

So I just thought I'd post up here, in case anyone was interested? Or knows someone who likes British plastic? (Galvanised too...)

Cheers

Looks like a nice one! What's it like to drive compared to the D? In which ways better/worse?

Foooook me Andy!

If I'd only have known.

I bought a Scimitar SE5a this morning  (see scimitarweb for sale section)

Jeeeez hows that for missing out by hours, I'd have certainly bought yours.

Good luck any way with the sale.

Hi guys,

Darren, given your new-found fame  maybe I could get you sign inside the doors or something??! :D

Jez, its actually pretty good on the road, similar to the D in a lot of ways. Not the best round town with a long flat bonnet and quite wide, with the turning circle of a barge. A factory galv chassis on this one, which (as you will know Jez) is a boon for the year round classic! Especially when the rest is plastic.

Its lovely as a big motorway cruiser. I have been london-glasgow in it many times, and I have on occaision have done it non stop. As long as I dont need a piss, the fuel tank is good for 600 miles :o MPG and performance are about the same as the D.

Tho trying to sell an executive car in 1986 with trunnion front suspension and a 4speed OD box is just so British that it makes you wonder how the industry lasted so long.

(Weak front end. Theres a similarlity to the D!)

Comfy, pretty good handling, fully adjustable shocks etc. Doesn't overheat if maintained, and can be (this one is) reliable. And when I put a new bathroom in, you can fold the seats down and get your new bath in the back. And the tiles, timber, adhesive, bog etc. Not so with the a D!!

Like a D, bad ones are total pigs, and utter money pits!

Classic lines tho, very "of an era". I will miss it, but it must go. It has been great for me, and I whould never/ could never have bought the D without getting the confidence that having this has taught me.

Everyone said "Why did you buy that, it'll be nothing but trouble". Just like a D.

But they were right with the D!! (But I'm keeping it)

Cheers

LOL Andy,

To be fair I was shocked they included me, They filmed so much stuff with everyone, I hardly expected to be seen let alone air my opinion. It was a tea spitting out surprise, but a nice one nevertheless.
Just remember to vote for me in next years reality TV Bafta's ;)

Good luck with the Scimitar sale, its a great car you have there. I'd advise any one on here who's considering another classic to buy yours.
I bought the SE5 literally 3 hours before you posted yours for sale, but its a 1 owner car from new with 39K miles and absolutely mint in Shetland (Donald Campbell Bluebird Blue), so all in all I'm very, very pleased to find such a rare thing. Trouble is I gotta build another garage now
