Cheers arran!
The "Italian job" gives way for further investigation.
I am expecting my wolf head polishing wheel soon and I'll go about testing a couple more polishers.
Miele also sells a SS protective shine that keeps stains of fingers and dirt from settling on to the steel for a longer shine keep.

I did think of using something like Mr. Sheen as it usually has an anti static effect on surfaces so should resist the dust unlike the WD40 solution. So using an abrasive like Cif is ok then? Does that not damage the finish?

Re the pics, your car looks the biz.

To be fair they all scrub up well :)

As you have seen everyone has their own method of washing the car, you just need to find what works best for you. Mine has never had any barkeepers friend or polish on it, and I have been told it looks pretty good.

As Mike says, everyone has their own preference, a combination off effort expelled vs. result.

Some owners have an annual regime of a once-a-year deep clean with BKF (powder or liquid) applied with a 3M scrubbing pad (with the grain) and then weekly/fortnightly standard washed with just water or a mild shampoo.

Others just clean it with soap when it looks dirty. A few take it through a commercial car wash (not something I could do, frankly).

And then there are the owners who clean the frame regularly while on a lift.

Keep the BKF off the painted surfaces, mind you, or at least don't rub it on the painted surfaces at ;least.

One thing not mentioned yet - be gentle with cleaning the bonnet/hood. On some cars you can see a visible X mark, thought to be a result of too much pressure being applied on the hood

Well after lots of thought and after all the advice given here (thank you all for your kind assistance)... I decided to try some Mr. Sheen and it worked like Magic! After washing and drying the car I noticed streaking from where the water hadn't quite dried off completely. The polish did the trick, I applied it to a microfibre cloth rather than directly to the body and applied it with the grain. I'm amazed how well it worked! I buffed up the plastic areas at the front and rear... the louvred cover looked fine so I just left it. I used some WD40 on the black vented engine cover which has made it look good as new. I Silvo'd the tail pipes and used tyre dressing to finish the job off.

Thanks again to everyone who has taken the time to post me back... Next thing on my list is the rear fog light... What's the best (permanent) solution...

Cheers, Mark
