I was speaking the prostrip - they chemically dip the chassis, but apparently it only removes the surface rust.

They told me they have blasted other frames before, which made me question why that wasnt included in the quote originally? Hopefully get money off

I was happy with my frame, which they did oven strip. I've visited the place & when they did mine there was no tanks large enough to fit a frame in, so unless they have changed things I assume they have oven stripped them.
Mine was covered in survace rust, which you could literally wipe off with a cloth, but was shot blasted in any case by the powder-coaters.

You are correct mr bandit, I misheard on the phone earlier.

So the extra cost is for sandblasting the surface rust away as they like to send the frame back looking semi-presentable. Tim didnt know we were going down the galvanising route which involves dipping the chassis in hydrochloric(?) acid first to remove rust/contaminants etc

Hi Thomas,

The acid dip pre-treatment for galvanising only treats/removes surface rust, not penetrative rust. If you had heavy rust on your frame, this would need to be sandblasted before galvanising anyway.

This is how the chassis I posted photos of earlier looked after being chemically stripped before being galvanised & coated

Only looks like a small rip, should be able to weld that back up easily.

Didn't have to strip the whole chassis for that though !!

Mind you it doesn't look in too bad a condition though.

Makes me want to do mine next !!!!!!!!!!!!
Insurance job maybe??? Maybe not, too honest me.

My frame has a similar thing on the opposite side - its supposedly caused by torsion from the ARB and not having the frame recall plates. I could be wrong.

John, the frames are fine apart from the holes lol - I think he came across wrong initially with Matthew, but we will see.

I think I really should have done mine, but I just keep thinking - "it's ok Gez didn't", and his was in a bog!

But you never know - those pesky bollards are everywhere!
