For my own Info, changed the coolant (well, half of it anyway) at 84,568.

Fitted an oem washbottle pump and new seal. The latter was hard! Drilled even more, bigger holes in wash bottle holder. Lets see how long that motor lasts..... bets anyone?!

I put a small split pin into the hole in mine. Just open it up a little so it can’t fall out, then as you drive & go over the inevitable bumps (aka pot holes) the pin ‘dances’ around & keeps the hole clean, thus avoiding re-blockage from debris :D

No the split pin goes in ‘eye side down’ with the open end in the hole. Bend the two arms open a tad & if you think the eye might even pop back through the hole pop another split pin through it & open that up.
These fuckin DNA scientists, I tell you ;) ;) ;)

Today I put the silicone passanger door seal back on with a bit of bond &seal, after it came off on the way up to Norfolk, and the flapping about caused the door to unlatch slightly on the way home. Previously Evo stick failed on the other side but held longer on this. Weird- didn't stick the seal, but a total cunt to get off the body!!

I also investigated a small coolant weep at the top rad hose. It seemed that no amount of tightening of the jubilee (stainless worm drive, for the pedants) clip would get it to seal.

The pessimistic Scot expected to find a leaking (DMC Eu) rad. But no! That item is great actually, still functioning like and old dutch hooker, and much less leaky. But the OEM top ally pipe has at least a couple of pinholes.

I noticed this (and others) a few years ago when I did the whole cooling system but managed to cover most with new silicone hoses which I cut a bit longer.

So now I have had to order a new top metal hose. Fair enough, I knew it was coming (but just forgot!). Bought some fresh coolant, so should be good to go in a couple of days.

Next- wide angle mirrors, oil change, then brake fluid flush.

Cheers, andy

Hello, small progress. Or rather as with these cars, many hours spent, progress limited!

My old rad hose was pinholed. Indicative of the rest of the cooling system, the pessamist predicts.

So I bought a new pipe from D Go

This fitted perfectly. As I had the system part drained, I also flushed the block.

I had noticed an oil weep, so also a good time to try to get this done. I replaced a previously bodged (7 years ago, by me, a reasonably effective stop gap!) cam cover seal, as this was a bit wet. Also the 2 oil senders as they were also questionable.

Oil and coolant flush at 85,498 miles.

I should really have cleaned up the block, but thought fuck it, no one sees it, get more stuff done. Anyway, when the block rot eats thru it'll just get oily again.

I also fitted the D Go wide angle mirrors I got from Arran at norfolk.

I used 3M VHB (very high bond) tape, bulit up in the centre of the mirror to account for the curve in the glass.

Removed old glass with a hairdryer and care

The drivers side lecky mirror protested loudly and comically trying to move the new glass, so swearing at the silver cunt, I gently unbonded the not-actually-that-highly-bonded-but still-quite-dear 3M tape.

I don't like fixing things that aren't broken, so didn't strip the passenger side when the glass was off. But the little red pins had become misaligned on the drivers mirror.

Cleaned, lubed reassembled, mirror stuck on.

They are really useful on the road, and will be especially so on the motorway. They almost feel like a modern car, one of the reasons these mirrors have DMC illegally etched in to the glass. Despite the risk of my car being impounded as evidence by American lawyers, this etching is useful, in case you slip into the idea that your modern type mirrors are attached to a normal functional car.
