I havent actually inspected the angle drive yet. I just assumed it was dead as the speedo isnt working at all so i will check the cables etc before ordering anything. Personally i would like to get it working before the MOT. I dont want to fork out for another MOT if it fails due to this, and yes i will be driving the car to the MOT center.

I wouldn’t worry about a speedo on the mot, never ever known anyone check it.

So ive been layed off work and now need to find another job. Still, gives me more time to sort the car out. Today saw the new headlights go on. Ive wired in sidelights to all 4 headlamps too. I decided to use spade connectors for all that splicing as its neater than solder. Then the connections were covered with heatshrink and then taped up.

I need to get the amber sidelights sorted at some point and the side markers too as one of them was rusted whilst the rest had some corrosion on. Still, onwards and upwards. Tomorrow, weather permitting, the fog light mod

The easiest way to deal with them is the blow the filament in the bulbs. Those bulbs are twin filament bulbs, so just blow the dim filament and then they will only work as indicators. Then if you ever want to make it look original again you just need to pop in new bulbs. No wiring cut

I know a few have already seen my facebook posts but im gonna post here anyway. Its a great timeline of progress to have in one place.

Anyway, today i made a start on the brake system. I changed the brake master as its clear to me it leaked at some point as some of you are aware (found the telltale rust spot when i removed the fuel tank). The empty reservoir confirmed this. I went for the 50:50 one.

Next i turned my attention to the front brakes. First thing i did once i removed the wheel and assembly was change the discs. Next were the calipers. I decided i would have a go at rebuilding them myself. So now i have new seals, pistons, bleed screws with cover caps, pads and pins. I found it to be a fairly easy process. The first job ive done on the car where i expected it to be difficult but actually turned out simple. Who knew? Ive also changed the brake hoses whilst i was at it. Just the rear to do now.

Heres a before and after.

So I started on the rear brakes today. I got them done but no after shots at the moment as one of the parking retraction plates was broken and it still needs adjusting. These calipers needed to be rebuilt as the pistons were stuck and there were a few dead spiders that choose the calipers as their final resting place. The brake hoses were also changed today which were a little tricky due to space mostly. The rear discs were easily swapped. A simple countersunk screw and off they pop.

So now i can start on the fog light mod and once ive bled the whole brake system which will probably be over weekend, the car will finally be ready for its first ever MOT.

Exciting times.

Im planning on bleeding the brakes this weekend. Ive recently changed all the hoses and rebuilt every caliper myself (pistons, seals, pads bleed screws etc). Ill be doing this two man style (oh behave), when i first bleed the new brake master is it best done on the bench as they say or can it just be done whilst its on the car?

When i do the rear calipers could i not just raise the rear of the car up to bleed them? Whilst i like admin blokes suggestion elsewhere of holding the calipers upside down i want to avoid removing them.
