Temporary Insurance

Postby DMC1983 » Tue Jun 18, 2019 11:29 pm

Its now getting very close to putting the car through its first MOT before the whole registering phase.

Who have previous importers used for temporary insurance? Ive just put a quote request in with Adrian Flux but wanted to know of any others.

Also, i know it varies from person to person, but roughly, how much were you quoted and how long was you covered for?

Thanks

Speak to andre at lancaster, alot of us are insured with them, it might be worth insuring it properly for a normal policy as its around the 300 quid mark for me, rather than blowing 50 odd quid for 1 day do a full policy on monthly payments, it will work out cheaper in the long run, i know the job situation doesnt help but if u can do it, it will deffo be cheaper overall

As Mike says, it's far cheaper to just go for a years insurance in the long run. I use RH Specialist Insurance, okay I'm getting on a bit, but I up'd my agreed value to £40K last year & got fully comp unlimited miles with all whistles & bells for £150.78. I Did complain though as it was £97 the year before at an agreed value of £25K ;)

Mines insured with Admiral. Its on their system suprisingly, so you can do an online quote. I can't remember what I paid but it wasn't a lot. Around 100 - 150 ish I think.

Well i just heard from adrian and they said they cant do a temporary one but the full year is £400 for me (ive not been driving long). Tbh i was expecting it to be higher.

My daily driver is on admiral so it may be worth seeing what they can do since they have a multi car policy. Ill check out lancaster too.

As others have mentioned, just insure it for the year, the provider will give you a grace period in which it will be insured on the VIN to allow for MOT and DVLA registration.

I paid £302 for my first years insurance (I was 25 at the time). I would give Andre at Lancaster a call. Adrian Flux have always been one of the more expensive providers in my experience.

Seconded for Lancaster. I just had my renewal quote from them at £225 - standard insurance practice nowaday it seems with renewals - I emailed Andre and said that's ridiculous, so he's sorted the price out and I've just renewed today at £137.

andre (dot) whitty at lancasterinsurance .co.uk is his direct email - but I have a feeling that only works if you are replying to an email he's sent you. 83723 is his "phone number", whatever that means. (01480 484848 is the main number)

I know the Flux family quite well, they are not short of a bob or two ;)

Definitely speak with Andre, I didn't this year and feel like I overpaid via Lancaster despite negotiating the price back down to near last years level (within £5). My higher premium might be because I have commercial cover for paid wedding work (I supposed I should actually do some to justify it).
