Renault Alpine mule

Postby Chriss » Sun Jun 16, 2019 8:53 am

A friend has recently purchased a Renault Alpine believed to be one of the several cars used by DeLorean as an engine mule. It is running the 2.7 engine and non lambda fuel injection also has the Volvo auxiliary air valve instead of the idle speed motor. The airbox is virtually identical to the DeLorean although looks almost handmade, the sump etc is all DeLorean too.
The accumulator is a lot easier to get to ;-)

It is running although has been sat around for a while so in need of quite a lot of work but the engine is running better now it’s been run a while.

Anyway some pictures for anyone interested.

Hi fellas,

Been a couple of years since I had my Delorean so buying this is a step closer to owning one again :-). Chris will no doubt keep you up to date with progress on this car but plan is to get it back on the road and useable In the next couple of weeks. Was running lean which I put down to lack of use and as I run fuel through it, it’s getting better with every start. Got all the lights and windows working now, just need to locate the flasher relay as hazards work but not the indicators..

That’s great thank you. Pity it doesn’t state the VIN numbers as at some point it was reregistered on a W plate although year of manufacture is stated as 1978. Current plate is PAH 406W but VIN suggests it’s one of 4 Galaxy cars, two of which wend to Legend. VIN 45122.

Hi Trevor

The fact it wasn’t registered until Aug 89 is interesting

Hi Al,

Assume you mean August 1980, that’s when it was registered. Looking at that list it looks like it may well have been one of the two cars at the bottom that were unregistered. Would fit as the letter is dated 27th Feb 1980 so the car could have been registered 5 months later. Be nice to find as much info on this as possible.
