MOT TIme

Postby eric » Tue Jul 16, 2019 11:07 am

I am struggling to find an MOT garage I trust and wondered how other folk managed it.

I am fairly new to the area "Nantwich" and really am reluctant to just drop it off to an unknown garage, for everyone who wants to drive it to be able to take it out as a test drive.

I don't in any way want anything other than a genuine MOT and happy to drive a bit further afield if anyone has recommendations.

I haven't found many classic car specialists. I was surprised there wasn't anyone who could come out and MOT it but I guess with the amount of kit and tests to pass now that's not feasible without a whopper of a van.

I would of thought any MOT center would be fine? I doubt the testers will just take it out for a test drive especially since you will be there? Well every MOT ive taken any car too I have always stayed there. Worst youll probably get is the testers wanting to sit in the car to have their picture taken.

Mine will be going for its first MOT hopefully end of this month. I have been told of a place near where i live in essex that are "classic car friendly". Thing is, it doesnt matter as im confident it will pass anyway as i have done everything necessary for it to pass. Emissions may be the only thing but i think thats fine too

Its a fair point... the only time I sat and waited for an MOT and watched I overheard them saying "when the customer is watching you want to cover absolutely everything" and I got a list as long as your arm for totally ridiculous things. I drove it over the road left it and it passed.

Maybe have to go back to that and just keep a friendly eye out.

Never had that. I tend to chat to the tester as he goes through the car. Last time he missed off a few things he should have checked. The guy knew i was restoring a delorean and that i work on the cars myself so he knew i was on top of things anyway.

Thing is, its a delorean. I certainly wouldnt leave it unattended. Even if i dont watch them i will keep the car in eye sight at the very least

As i said im fairly confident my car will pass. Breaks/tyres are new as are tie rod ends and gaitors. Washer/wiper works as do the seatbelts. It may get some advisories but shouldnt be many.

My "classic car friendly MOT garage " asked me if I was planning on selling the car in the next 12 months !!!!!! Say no more.
