Just been to a classic car show (Woodvale Rally), and got talking to a guy who worked for a car importer who imported various makes of cars to the U.A.E. Turns out he says a hangar on the old R.A.F. base at Sharjah was used for storing the cars and recalls in 1982-83 there were 19 DMCs unsold within it, all were unpainted and apparently cannibalised for spares for unknown reasons. Can't vouch for the validity of the story but he has pictures of some of the DMCs, I've given him my email adress so hopefully some info may come of it-fingers crossed!

Could be interesting, there might be some truth in that, but not as many as 19......well unless.....!

He seemed genuine and had a good knowledge of DMCs-he told me that parts like front suspension arms and running gear had to be removed from these stored DMCs (possibly due to damage sustained to existing customers DMCs, the roads in 80s Saudi were as bad as ours and parts sent from the U.K probably took weeks). The firm he worked for also imported exotica such as Maserati, when he left in the mid 80s almost all the cars were gone.

He did say but unfortunately I cant rember Al, find out more if and when he emails back, and he did say 19 cars were in the hangar, he has a picture of his wife in one at the location. hopefully he'll be in touch soon

As of today I haven't had any email or contact back from the chap I met at the Woodvale rally, sorry about this gents, I thought the guy would have liked to have shared the info with us, I did say the club would be very interested in these Saudi DMCs
