I wouldn't touch self drive personally, especially with a D' of all things. As we all know, they take a little getting used to, someone WILL without doubt smack something with it.

That's my worry too, but I'll give it a go until I chicken out! Hope I won't have to come back saying you all told me so!

Well at least you have a u.s.p.
I'm assuming you can get a fair bit for that too!

But, I would liken it a little bit to a hooker offering unprotected sex. Sooner or later something is going to fall off! Either your £500 a day customer is going to have the fuel pump fail on the M40, or as Julian says, that right front fender is going to get a whack.
Still I reckon you might get top dollar for it - lots of people ask about it all the time.

Nice idea, niche market I think you might succeed!

It would definitely be the only one available for self drive hire in the UK, I guess you could pretty much set your own price.

You're a brave man though, personally I wouldn't hire my car out self drive for any amount of money. It's not worth the risk in my eyes, and mine is a POS compared to your car.

in fairness, providing you only drive in a straight line its not to scary! ;)

Where we are going we dont want corners.

Just make sure you have a LARGE deposit to help cover accident damage. Id love to do self drive hire but haven't got the balls and the thought of test pilots "trying" to wheel spin etc just makes me cry.

For that reason I have the most beautiful paperweight in my garage, just need to buy a bigger desk now!

There used to be one to hire in Scotland a few years ago

The company I'm hiring it out through seems to think it will do well and obviously the type of person who can afford it isn't really the test pilot that will ruin the car.
If it starts to look like its affecting the car I'll have to re-assess.
I tried for years to find one to drive myself and could never find anywhere that had one to hire so its definately a niche that needs filling and if it brings more people into the DeLorean clubs then at least it would raise the profile of the car.

here at a local classic car show with us in the background sat around my mates VW camper

off the top of my head, here's a list of some of the work done in the last 12 months
(for most of which i have to thank Wolfgang Hank and Ed Uding!)

gear shift repaired (moving the stick was in effect moving the entire linkage making it almost impossible to get into first gear)
fog lights rewired as parking lights + red rear side reflectors replaced with amber ones.
vin number stamped on frame(at the German DVLA's insistence)
unspecified unspeakable things done to hand brake to make it worse(at German TUV's insistence!)
new stainless brakelines (to replace the stainless ones that were already there but didn't have a TUV stamp on them, thanks germany!)
new front wheel
new front lower control arm
new DMCE front springs
new radiator + fan cowling (my fault on some cobble stones)
new fuse box
new blower motor
new DMCE stainless roofbox
new AC low pressure switch
new rear wheel bearings
new stainless fuel lines
new injectors
new stereo

to do
do something (anything) to improve the brakes!
sort out the creaking/clunking coming from the front. (hopefully my new shocks will help)

Simon.
