Cat bypass is prob stock from the factory as there was prob no unleaded fuel available

Where would they find a similar cut and curved glass. And if it as cut to shape why not include the drop glass moulding,?

Fantastic pictures Alex. It's amazing that the community is so world wide that these things keep popping up. Thanks for documenting this for us. You never know when they will decide they need the space.

Some questions:

How do you know it is 16545 and did you get a picture of the window vin plate?
Was the driver side window possibly Perspex/plexiglass?
It occurs to me that a selfie-stick would have been useful to photograph the odometer
Has the car been there 20 years or 30 years? At the start you say 20, but then you note that the engine is only 4 years old.

That's quite a drive from Saudi to Athens, google maps says 4400km from the centre of the country. Would love to know the whole story

Mouse,
At first I wrote over 20 years. Today I was told its in there since 1987.
VIN Was given to me from their computer registry. I was not allowed to document any codes or numbers of the confiscated vehicle. Me standing in there was actually illegal. Not to mention the photographs.

I am sure it was not driven to Greece. It was surely shipped here for the Arab owner.
After 6 months, foreign cars are obligated to leave the country. I suppose the Arab owner didn't care much for this crapy Renault driver and let it be impounded by the government.
I was told this vehicle still has a pending court hearing with the owner who never came back for it. That's why this never made it to an auction sale as all other cars in this lot.

2 days ago I met a guy who restores willy jeeps. He was excited to see my Delo cause he could remember one with Arab plates right around the time the Bttf film aired!
I was like WHAT REALLY??? Tell me more... But he had to leave. So I will meet up with him to get more info hopefully.

So, in theory, if one could track down the Saudi owner and he sold it to you for 1 euro, could one get it back from the Greek government or would there be huge fines etc greatly outweighing the value of the car?

You would think this warehouse represents a tapable source of income for a government that needs a euro or two.......

Mouse... For one stop bouncing between forums... I can't keep up.

The Greek government will play ANY GAME if the officials involved make a euro* or two;)

Al,
Isn't there a manifest of some kind that has all vehicles listed that were exported to the ME?

There is sparse information which lists 50 cars, I have some vin information which until recently confirms vin 11741-11789 which makes 49 cars... I do now have the missing vin after the Kuwaiti dealership assigned two employees to dig through their archives.

I am in the process of writing an article for a forthcoming book and updating the info on here with latest findings.

The car you have found along with other confirmed Saudi vins are not part of the 50 Middle East cars which the factory documents show.

Remember the ME cars were all identical spec and automatic transmission.

The Saudi cars so far found have all been in 16xxx so they must have been revinned by Consolidated
What we don't know yet is whether they went to the U.S. Or straight from the factory ?

I have a newspaper article from August 1982 which says they sent 15 cars to Saudi Arabia, but that would have been before the revinning process?
