Al Qurain Automotive , Greg Maine
Posted: Fri Oct 14, 2016 12:53 pmIn 1982 25 DeLoreans were sent to Kuwait direct from Dunmurry in the hope DMCL might be able to break the Middle East market... we all know what happened next...
(Some of the following I have written on here before , but to save me retyping it from club Facebook I have copied it)
A few years ago myself and James Espey began to research these cars and subsequently found that the dealership (Al Qurain) in Kuwait still existed and even more astonishing was that the General Manager at the time was still working at Al Qurain, an Englishman called Greg Maine.
Greg was initially contacted via email and quick to reply ,and over the last few years has provided much information and memories of what happened to these cars of which my addendum in Barrie Wills book is the most up to date with Gregs contribution.
Until today we have only exchanged several dozen emails, Greg informed me he was coming back to the UK for a short visit so I drove round to visit him, I also had with me a signed copy of Barrie's book, which Barrie had also wrote a personal message to Greg thanking him for all his efforts back in 1982.
What is even more poignant is that my car Vin 11753 was one of the 25 sold in Kuwait in 1982 and subsequently imported into the UK in 1988 and used by Greg himself.
He showed me a Bosch Jetronic tester which he still owns... and his knowledge of the KJet even after all these years is substantial.
