Paulo, have you tried the Dodo yet?

Hi Jeff,

I have tried it and it gives a better result (I think) than Barkeepers and is less toxic...the white powder is easier to remove.

Also one of our club cleaning 'gurus' Malc Lomas has tried it and gave it the thumbs up, but using everytime to clean your car would be a bit laborious to say the least!.. opinion is once a year seems to work!

But myself and Malc are testing another product at the moment which is in a liquid form and seems to repel fingermarks better, so far its thumbs up from us..so I was thinking of putting a thread up about it on its own.

This is the product.

Not yet: I got in contact with Dodo Juice management and they will kindly send me a small sample.
We will test in on a damaged rear quarter panel @ Andrea's as soon I will have received it.
In any case, they told me that it contains chemicals and very fine, but hard, abrasive particles. If the metal is hard, like stainless, in their opinion this shouldn't overshine the surface.

"Mild Abrasive Action" so more of a cleaner than a polish then.

So, here it is :P

Since it's about a huge brushed stainless steel surface, some precautions should be carried out. So, together with Andrea, we decided to test the product on a damaged rear quarter panel.
It came from this donor car:

Image

As you can see, somewhere in time the car has been painted dark after a wreck.
Somewhere the paint has been stripped and the stainless steel surface, or the bondo, is clearly visible on the door and the right front fender.
So, now the right rear quarter panel is like this: all the bondo has been removed, the dents worked out at our best and the surface brushed with a 3M pad:

Image

Image

We didn't have any old microfiber available, so we had to use industrial paper towel. :(
We split the panel in three part with some blue mask tape: the left side was assigned to Dodo Juice, the central part to a stainless steel cleaner from Arexons company and the right side to Svitol, which is something like WD40, made by Arexons too.

Let's start! The black oxide immediately came out at the first shot..

Image

Image

That's me buffing! In my opinion, the product must be left on the surface for about 2 minutes before the buffing out process.

Image

Image

Image

Image

We needed to further use the product on a really dirty area:

Image

These marks won't be buffed, and the more you use the product, the more it shines, thus not deleting the brushing.

Image

Image

And the beading was nice too..

Image

Now, it's time to use the second product on the area in the middle..

Image

Image

A lot less oxide was removed..

You can compare the surfaces, considering that just the area in the middle, on the left, has been treated with Dodo Juice.

Image

Image

And now the surprise: the tape removal..

Image

Image

I further tried to remove the marks, by applying the Dodo Juice product on a stripe, but the mirror effect started to appear. This was too much..

Image

Image

The right area, cleaned with Svitol, had no interesting features and the difference before/after was irrelevant.

Now, it was time to test the DJ product on the inner part of a door..
This door belong to Andrea's car, which has never seen paint during its life.

Image

Image

The door light is the border area: on the right, Supernatural polish has been applied.

Image

No Dodo:

Yes Dodo:

We even had the time to clean the tail pipes..
Before:

After:

And some small bits here and there to..
The coolant bottle cap:

And the fuel rail..

Conclusions

I think that the supernatural polish is an extremely good product to detail small bits here and there, like exhaust pipes, metal caps and so on.
But it's not suitable to detail an entire DeLorean car, especially if we consider that the surface may have accumulated oxide for nearly 30 years and the risk to polish the panels,
when continously trying to remove the blackened product, is real.
I would not recommend to detail a Delorean with it, if you are not searching for a shining polished surface.
Paper towels are not the best product to do this kind of job: a microfiber would have better performer the task, this is for sure, especially in buffing the black polishing detritus away.
Svitol product, on the opposite side, is very good as solvent to buff out supernatural polish.

Great Test there !

Do you have any barkeepers to test on the same panel?
