Hello,

I would like to introduce our company to you all , we are Hill Shipping and specialise in the shipping of motor vehicles from the USA to the UK. Approx 18 months ago HMRC lost a court case and now for any vehicles over 30 years of age and without substanital changes we can arrange for a ruling to be issued where the import duty is reduced to ZERO and the VAT is just 5%.

I hope this info is of some help to anybody looking to import a vehicle from the USA to the UK.

Please feel free to contact me if you require any further details.

Regards,
Jamie

Thanks for the replies, and nice avatar Al !

We have received probably well over 100 rulings on various makes and models since the ruling change, as long as the vehicle is over 30 years of age and without substantial changes to the chassis, brakes, engine & steering then it will be fine to have the ruling approved.

Regards
Jamie

Great news for anyone importing - not going to do the values of cars over here any favours though! :)

We have received plenty of rulings on Corvettes !

It should not effect the values of models in the UK , you would just be paying 5% import tax instead of 30%

Thanks
Jamie

What Gez means is that - at the moment if there is a car already in the UK for £15k, that looks the same as a car in the USA for "£15k including shipping and VAT" then now that car over there will be £13k, so yes it will have a small effect on our values since people that need to sell will have to lower the price.

Also - it's been a long while since anyone has paid 10% duty on top, since the DeLorean was built in the UK and therefore exempt. Usually it is just the 20%VAT plus £50 flat fee.

The £ 50 flat fee is only for vehicles that have been manufactured in the EC, sent outside of the EC e.g USA , and then returned within a three year period. Hope that helps. ( we have checked this HMRC on a few occasions )

Thanks
Jamie
