I was reinstalling some door trim this afternoon after work. The car is my garage but I can get the drivers door open. Anyway I got in and didn't close the door properly, actually I don't know what I done but I jammed the door and trapped myself in the car. As I said I was in my garage so I couldn't get out the pasenger door. I had the car keys but I couldn't drive out of the garage because my Golf was blocking it. I had to wait an hour for my girlfriend to get home and move the VW.....
Eventually I got the door open. I don't know how. In my anger (at myself and the car) I ripped off the door trim. I unplugged the solenoid, pulled the latch and door popped open.

I'm having a few beers now to help me calm down.....

been there done that but i had a few other parts in the way in the bttf car well it happend to me and ed uding in holland

I forgot to add that at one stage I heard the newspaper delivery boy doing his rounds. I called out to him but the young whippersnapper had his ipod on and didn't hear me.

If I had had a hammer with me I would have taken it to the windscreen to get out of the car - I was that pi**ed off with it.

Seriously I should carry a hammer with me in the car in case I ever need to get out quick in an emergency.

My car is fairly handy at locking you in if you don't shut the door fully or you activate the lock from the inside. Sometimes you can get out by repeatedly attempting to lock/unlock and tugging the handle but it doesn't always work. Normally you've got to get out of the other side walk round and push the door fully shut and then use the key. F***king DeLoreans!

I can only imagine how annoying that must have been being stuck in your garage...

How do you reckon insurance companies look on intentional breaking of windscreens? Would you actually be covered?

I was actually wondering what would be the "best" glass to break, the drivers window or windscreen? i.e. which one is easier to replace!

I've not read the T&C on my insurance policy re windscreens but I think i'll read the small print just-in-case....

I remember adjusting the doors on 2835 with Alistair McCann in my driveway and when the trim was replaced the passenger door decided it didn't want to open from the inside. On another occasion I was working on the engine and with it running I closed the drivers door only to find the engine cover was not released. I went to release it and found my doors had locked so I had a running car and no way in to stop it. I ended up pushing through the mesh on the engine cover and unplugging the ignition coil to stop it. To open the door I was told a wee trick by a fellow owner

Well nothing has change then.! I heard stories like that when I worked at the factory after the first cars were shipped to the United States.

I can think of worse places to be locked in

Probably best to break out through the windscreen, I'm not sure how strong the bond is but I guess you could sit in the passenger seat with your feet against the windscreen and slowly push with your legs until the bond breaks and the window comes out.

I'd probably use a car mat or the mat from the cargo area behind the seats beneith my feet to sheild my legs incase the glass broke.

One of those hammer things would be next to usless on the laminated windscreen, it would simply punch small holes in it, infact if you're useing one of those then it's probably only any good for smaching the side windows.

Having helped cut a DMC windshield out of a car with wire, I really doubt it could be pushed out with your feet - the adhesive is really strong. Even if you do heavy lifts on the leg press in the gym, I doubt you could push it out - you wouldn't be able to get a good angle with your feet on the windshield to put some power into the push, and whatever you are bracing yourself against while pushing (i.e. back of seat) would probably give way before the windshield would!

I've been trapped also before - I find that pressing down really hard on the arm rest, then locking and unlocking the mechanism followed by trying to open the door does the trick.
