Louvre Latch

Hi chaps,

I wonder if any of you have experienced this - The latch that I assume keeps the louvre down doesn't seem to grip on to anything on my D. You can simply lift the louvre up from anywhere at any time.

I'm worried that if I'm going along and going over a bump, it will crash about or may even break the louvre. Has anyone had this before? The latch doesn't seem broken but also doesn't seem to clip onto the engine cover loop thing provided.

Do you reckon it will be safe to drive like that for a while?

Cheers!

Sweet, thanks Rob. Although, the Engine grill doesn't latch down either

The latch on the louvre probably isn't lining up with the catch

Put a little paint on the engine cover latch then lower the louvre, you can then see how far off it is
Usually taking the latch off the grill bending it back a bit then refitting means it lines up
If it doesn't click the louvres will bounce around

You shouldn't be able to just lift the louvre up

Is that common/easy fix? Are you saying that there is a latch on the louvre not a magnet?

Having just had a look, there does appear to be some kind of spring loaded latch mechanism on the underside of the louvre that you can activate a bit like a clip. It's not holding on to anything though...

Me again!

So yeah, it looks like the louvre latch is misaligned with the catch on the engine grill. However, the engine grill doesn't stay down either, it can be just lifted willy-nilly.

Has anyone had this before? There doesn't appear to be anything on the underside of the grill - it's just smooth with a hole. I don't see how it locked down unless there is something missing from it?
