Valley of death - stop worrying about it. ..

This is a valley of death. ..

Last week I stripped down cleaned out and reassembled our Vectra V6 Cdti Diesel top end to clear out all the gunk and soot because of a failed Exhaust Gas Recirculation Valve.

It was so gunky I wore latex gloves and didn't take pictures using my phone as it would have ruined my phone.

Talk about too many wires and pipes. It's almost there, only 2 fault codes to go from the 20 odd it had originally. It's taken ages as I've gone and tested each wire of each sensor back to the ecu and bench tested the sensor/ solenoid because to get it out again means another strip down. ..

Thanks Izusu. ...

With manifolds off i used mr muscle oven cleaner.

It's not the end of fix yet, after a test drive I get p1900-55 Diesel Particulate Filter error. Probably because all the egr soot it ingested is now in the exhaust filter. .

If back washing the filter with a jet wash off the car doesn't fix it, it's getting traded in :(

At the thought of spending money, I cleared out my garage pit, removed the exhaust from the back off the dpf and dropped the front down of the flange. I couldn't remove the pressure differential sensors as they were welded solid and the cables from these went straight through the bottom wiring loom of death to a connector only a man with 6 got long arms with 5 of 360 degree 3d joints could reach.

I use compressed air to blast soot and crap from the back through to the front and even though I wore breathing filter mask and used my old vacuum cleaner with hepa filter at the other side to catch any emitted soot, I still enjoyed the visual effect of black snow (/ soot) flakes that adorned the area of the pit I was sat in. I managed to blast a lot of soot crap out from the dpf and also the from post turbo/ pre dpf oxidation catalyst too.

Fingers crossed, let the tight-force be strong and hope this fixes the final fault code so I don't have to even think about spending money again....

That sounds a bit soppy! The last time I felt emotional, I bought a round of drinks and even left a tip after the meal. ......
