DMCDeclan has read it. He said the workers will need to have a thick skin and realise it's a work of fiction

Well, I finally read it and loved it, though a knowledge of both DeLoreans and Belfast in the 80s certainly helped - the characters visited so many of the places I frequented that I am surprised I wasn't referenced.
It is indeed a work of fiction and the two main characters are fictional, but they intermingle with "real" people like JZD, Chapman, Landers etc in a pretty seemless way. Patterson includes many factual accounts of familiar scenes, like the gold faucets, along with probably fictional accounts of other occasions (like the Puerto Rico non-contract signing) and you find yourself wondering if these too might be accurate.
I thought the actual workers were portrayed very positively particularly about their pride in their work.
Like the real thing, the book ends oddly and abruptly, not helped by the assembly of my copy where pages 313-328 appear after page 344

I too enjoyed reading the book - the author also had a hand in the radio play script.
Just treat it as fiction - and it's tell a great story.
