096 is the answer you're going to hear the most. And Admin-bloke approved ;) - if you're gonna get one get a big one :)

This is the biggest battery that will go in the hole - just check the height as I did once see one that was perhaps a little too high(?) - but generally any 096 type is the one you want. Obviously get the highest CCA and AH you can get:) - https://www.tayna.co.uk/096-Car-Batteries-G30.html

I previously had a “096” size battery in my early vin, but it fitted really tight (from length point of view) in its case.
In last November I replaced it with an Optima red top, which is shorter and has a huge cranking current. Downside, it costs twice..

:? That's strange, I fitted a 096 type battery a year or so back to Richard Mayo's car which is also an early vin, and it fit fine.

Indeed it did fit, but relocating the cover was a little bit tricky, like building a Lego :geek:
I have a weird early vin underbody, since the pontoon it's not textured, but it clearly shows the fibers of the glassfiber.
Maybe some early vins are more early vins than the other ones?

I'm assuming you don't have the original terminals on your battery leads any more Mec? I had to faff about changing to top connectors rather than front on my last battery change which was a pain.

mine has got the originals at least on one of them, i am fitting a power cut off switch at the same time so some modifying will probably be in order

Battery cut off FTW. Meant I came back to my car after 3 months and no battery issues or messing about. Still full of juice and fired up on the first turn.
