I've been using concrete blocks for years on my two cars and have no problems with them at all. They're not going to split or break apart under the weight of less than half the car. I'd be pooing myself if you had the thing up on pallets, mind.

However having said that i do make sure the hand brake is on and there's at least one brick under the other end of the car.

The tyres are original!!! No way will I be using them.

I have a good buddy in the tyre business who is supplying original make for the front and General Grabber for the rear - £160 all in. (fitted balanced)

The blocks are fine like you say.
Air out of the front tyres, Autobox in park,handbrake on (literally "brake" as there is only one rear brake currently on the car), I'll get some wooden wedges.

.... I'm only clambering under the car to get rad in, tank in, and pipes run front to back .... when the project moves on to ball joints etc it will be off the blocks - I'm happy with the situation.

I just re read Al's post and the penny dropped about the wheels warping

...... that's all I want!!!

Oh well, it has sat on flat tyres for quite some time now - so a few more months should hopefully not contribute to or exacerbate the risk of a warp.

I have the grabbers on mine and it looks odd imo. They are a 4x4 tyre and definitely look like one lol.

Continentals are what Ed recommends I think, probably a bit pricey tho. Will change to those in the spring.

Having discussed this at length with Ed just recently, he uses Continentals, but 225s rather than 235. He's of the opinion that Grabbers are "no good" in the rain, I'd be of the opinion that the wrong size isn't ideal either, but hey-ho, it's only 10mm
I quite like the look of the Grabber tread pattern, I can't say I've done that much extreme weather driving though.

The way I look at it is this, unless you're an imbecile you wouldn't wear a pair of shoes that's a size to small or a size to big for you.

There are other options out there if you don't want the grabbers, eg Nankang, Pirelli etc. I haven't seen any issues with the Grabbers myself, and I know of plenty of cars running them. They get a C rating for wet so not sure what Eds complaints are.
If money is no object then get the Pirelli P600 which is a car tyre that is available in the correct size, and speed rating, don't expect much change out of £400 for a pair though, and keep in mind it's a 20+ year old tyre design.

Once again thanks for this. £35 for the front and £45 for the back - I'd be a fool not to - especially as the term "money is no object" is not applicable in my case.

I like the Pirelli's, matched to P6000's on the front.

And unless you're an imbecile, you wouldn't want a DeLorean....
