Yep, mental isn't it. Even Hamburg which seems like it was last week is actually nearly 2 years ago

Pleased to say that following Dan's advice, I tried sending off my V5 to the DVLA and have come back smelling of roses. Thanks for the advice mate!

Corr your reg is close to mine!

I see they’ve also changed yours to 1980 too. I recon they are going to be getting a few applications next year to change the build years :D

Yeah, they must have looked at mine and thought they'd already processed it a few weeks ago

Really pleased it worked, I thought it was worth a punt.

Hi all, sorry if this has been covered already, I've just read back over the last couple of pages...

I had VIN 801 imported Sep/Oct end of last year - work has now been completed on it and it's MOT'd. VIN plate says April '81, do you think I should be good to register as historic? And what exactly have you guys sent in along with the V55/5?

-V55/5
-Photocopy of driving licence
-Recent utility bill
-Insurance cover note
-Copy of MOT
-£55 postal order to DVLA
-NOVA (proof of duty paid)

And the guide on the forum to filling out the V55/5 still relevant?

Appreciate any advice, I'm worried I'll send it off, wait ages and be told something's off with the application.

Many thanks,

Shaun.

I don't think you will be able to claim historic status this year as on the V55/5 you will be stating that the car was built in April 81.
We are using a loophole where by the DVLA registered a number of cars as the 01.01.81 despite obviously being built much later in the year.
If you do get your V5 back with the 01.01.81 date - then you can use it to apply for historic tax status - otherwise you might have to wait until April 2022.

Glad to hear another one getting through. Did you have to wait long? I sent my doc's off on the 5th May (Recorded delivery), haven't heard a thing yet

My advice would be to register it as normal with the tax fee, if you are lucky enough to get the V5 back and it states 01 01 1981 as the date of first registration, you can then submit an application to have it changed over to the historic tax class. If the application is successful then any remaining full months tax would be refunded.

Regarding the V55/5 form, I believe there are a few new sections which have been added since I initially posted the how to some years ago, however the new sections are not applicable to the delorean so you can mark them as N/A.

Hey, yeah I must have sent mine around the same time as you. It took over a month. Keep checking the online tax check to see if your car has been changed to 1980. I haven't had my physical V5 back from them yet.

Got a rejection letter thru today. Says mine is registered Dec 1981, I have no idea where that date is coming from. Think I'll just send the lot off again, maybe get a different person
