Check the inside page of your V5, what is listed as the ‘date of first registration’?

Yea discovered that while back sadly lol, that's what the document says on the inside page (so where does 31st Dec 1981 come from?)

I was hoping the 'declared manufactured 1981' on the front might have helped

Sorry to hear that! Yeah I think it's something to do with mine and some of the others getting lucky with the random 01.01.81 first reg date on the V5. when we sent the forms off, the DVLA must have thought that if the car was registered on 01.01.81, then logic must mean that it was made in 1980.

They've changed my V5 to show 1980 as the year of manufacture and also the front now says 'declared manufactured 1980'

The DVLA will only accept it if the date of first registration is prior to the 7th January 1981.

Unfortunately it won't help sending it off again. As yours is down as 31st December 1981 you would need to provide the dating evidence (I mentioned in a post a few pages back) to prove to the DVLA that the vehicle was manufactured in 1980, which of course it wasn't.

Given the date on your V5, your car will be eligible from 1st April 2022.

So, I am pleased to report that I too have now managed to register my car as a historic vehicle.

DVLA even sent me a cheque for the refund for the remaining road tax

Many thanks to Dan Stacey for his guidance in my application.

Hi Andy

Yes, sorry I meant to say that I was fortunate enough to have 1st Jan 1981 as my original registration date on the v5

It would seem that this is key to being successful in registering as a historical vehicle at the moment
