Another Volvo 760 bites the dust

So as we all know, the Volvo 760 has the same high performance, well engineered, reliable engine as the early 80's Volvo 760. I recently found this fine example being broken for parts due to an engine fire  It was running original fuel lines, so suspect there lies the reason. Anyway from the pics it looked like the actual engine itself was ok and that the powder from the fire extinguisher and melted plastic over it was making it look worse that is was.

So on Saturday myself and Mec went on another adventure armed with an engine crane and my trailer and successfully extracted the engine  A nice little 'tec' day

The first thing we did was remove the inlet manifold and check the valley out, which looks ok. It is currently sat in my garage awaiting a good clean up and inspection, but it is probably going to end up in my Delorean which is still currently got the 2.7 variant in it which always was going to be temporary to get the car running for the Hamburg trip the other year. If it ends up that it's not great internally then it will be stripped and the block will hopefully make a good base to rebuild from.

They are getting rarer and rarer, so worth snapping them up when they crop up.

   Haha Julian .. Fancy a bum

We had a great afternoon, we had the engine out and in the trailer in 2 hours flat, which was good going considering we had to find it first under all the molton plastic and foam dust, we even had to borrow a hoover so we could clean it up a bit ! All in all a good day and we gave the spark plugs a bit of WD40 treatment when we got back to Dans and they all came out fine so i think its compression check time next... come on Dan, now you got a thread on here you gota keep the project rolling !! ;) ;)

I'm in the garage Weds night so will start giving it a clean up and look inside

I also did a bit of googling and found this old advert for the car last year. It looks like it was well looked after at that point, so hopefully the engine is is good condition...

Great find and rescue!
fingers crossed it ll be fine inside.

as thom says mighty jealous of how many are over there..
It's even worse down here to find them cause of the tax laws.. Circa 1200 euro to tax one of them bad boys down here in their day, so as a result even rarer than hen s teeth!
if people have them they swapped the engines out for diesels like they did for the renault 30 s..

Looking forward to seeing the project rolling on!

Shane

Yes I am very tempted to go down that route, but if it looks nice inside I'm also tempted to just put it straight in as it is
