Great work Dan and Mec, love it! This era 760s are properly rare now over here.

I made a start stripping the engine down, removing all the bits not needed for use in a Delorean. I successfully removed the alternator, water pump, Y pipe, crank pulley, flywheel, exhaust manifolds and studs, and the distributor.

Also popped off the rocker covers to have a look inside. The cams appear to be ok, no grove has been worn in them by the rockers

Also made a start cleaning out the valley, so far no corrosion found, so fingers crossed it carries on that way.

Also found this cover plate on the end of the crank. I've not come across this before on other engines. It looks like it protects the main oil seal? Has anyone else come across this before? I'm tempted to use it, but its probably 1mm thick so would space the flywheel back slightly. Not sure if 1mm would make any difference or not.

Finally an update on this! So since the last post I have spent many hours cleaning up this engine. Due to the engine bay of the volvo being sprayed with a fire extinguisher there was powder everywhere, and of course melted plastic stuck to various bits. Along with the usual oil and mud this made a lovely mess to clean up.

I also removed the lower crankcase ready to swap it with a delorean one, and had a look at the main bearings while I was in there which look pretty good.

The engine seems to be a good one. Before the fire the Volvo itself was well looked after and serviced. It seems the fire just took out the fuel lines and melted a few bits of plastic over it, luckily no harm done to anything else. So I decided to get it fitted in my D. I will update my car's thread in the members cars section with details of the engine swap!

Nice work Dan, that engine looks like a good one!

Did you manage to grab the ignition dizzy from the Volvo too or have you already got a Volvo one?

Unfortunately it was melted and too far gone, but I already have one from another 760 I stripped a few years ago that had a rotten block.
