That's a good thought. I had a good look all round the car, inside and out, and didn't think of looking at the lambda computer i'll be honest. Then again, an angle drive break would simply stop that turning around and increasing too.

Regarding the documentation, I guess I can be forgiven for being off target with my own evaluation considering clearly I was making evaluations from inaccurate information. Not sure what the auction guys were on about at the show now? They seemed to have nothing.

Yes mate, the lambda counter did match the miles.

Not sure on that one Chris, I can only think the auction guys didn’t have the full knowledge of the car? I suppose it would take some doing to keep up with all the cars they have for sale.

As it’s specifically referred to in the auction description, I can’t believe it doesn’t exist as the buyer would have legal recourse etc.

Highly unlikely to have an angle drive issue with what is clearly an extremely low use car.

Must be nice to have a spare £73k knocking about for a collectable car.

Congratulations to the new owner though

How do you check the mileage on the lambda counter? Somehow I've never heard of doing this before!

(haven't look at mine for a long time) From memory, the lambda counter has a 3 counter display (mechanical like the odometer at the dash binnacle).

The counter rotates 1 for every 300 miles of mileage. At 100 on the counter (30k miles covered - 100%), it clicks the internal switch closed to complete the circuit for the LAMBDA indicator at the dash binnacle, indicating it's time to check the lambda system and potentially change the oxygen sensor. You need to then reset to all ZEROS again, and then the counter starts winding up until it reads 100 again.

...From memory.

So in the case of this auction car, in theory, the lambda counter was still reading 001 for less than 600 miles covered. (I didn't look myself)

If the angle drives breaks though (at the wheel which is the most common break point) then it stops everything from turning. No speedo, no odometer, no lambda. So unless someone winds back the odometer and forgets the lambda counter, or the angle drive line breaks between the lambda counter and the binnacle connection, you'd expect the two to always marry up.

Yes Chris Williams showed me the pic on his phone, it was 001 on the lambda

I bought my car through they're sister company cca, they tried to bid it up with a fake bidder. Apparently they won the car for about two minutes before the guy came to me asking if I would stand by my offer!

This.

This is what I meant by “telephone bidders”. Convenient.
