I am looking forward to this thread! I am contemplating the purchase of an MGA to restore/customize so this will be very helpful. Rock on man!

Well firstly make sure it's all steel panels, there are a lot of cars with fibre glass.
Also make sure it's got the correct engine as most have the mgb 1800 engine and will be classed as modified,so no 5% duty on import. 1500's have drums all round as well and a disc conversion is over £500.
Also the chassis can rot horrendously along where the floorboards sit and make sure all dials are present just a fuel guage is over a oner.
Rear boot floors are over the grand as well everything else is peanuts to buy.
Doors bonnet and boot are alloy to keep weight down and they have 2 separate 6v batteries but you can get a single varta which fits in the tray.
Forget a twin cam they start at 25k+
All in all I'm happy with my car needs work but runs with good oil pressure but is a right pig to start but carbs need a good sort out. TT

Thanks Darren :) it's gone a bit where the floorboards meet the chassis and a bit on the inner cills but the boot floor is good and most of the structure is really sound .
Head gasket has gone but I'm hoping its just that and not a cracked head
