Visiting UK again!

About this time last year I posted for tourism advice and it was superb. I visited both Brooklands and the Roman baths at Bath. I hadn't realized how close we were to Brooklands until I programmed the satnav to take us to the nearest Tesco and completely lost my mind when I saw the old banking adjacent to the car park (my wife was most amused).

We're arriving on Saturday morning, and we'll be staying in Seaton, Rutland for most of the week, then moving to near Manchester for a few days. We're already booked to see Henry IV, parts 1 and 2 on successive nights in Stratford, but what else is there for an engineer/car nerd to annoy his wife with?

I've just done a quick directions map from Rutland to Manchester and you go past Birmingham on the M5 then M6 North.

This goes past Coventry so you could stop at the National Transport Museum where you can see Thrust SSC / Thrust 2 (and a Delorean!)

If you're into Bikes there is the motorbike museum not that far from there too.

Whereabouts in Manchester will you be staying?

I'm still at work but I'll post up the web sites for the above

Thanks! Those look great (I also have a TR-4, so there's a Coventry connection there. I'll be in Knutsford, to the SW of Manchester proper.

North side of Manchester is "Bolton" and has a stream museum.

* Steam Museum

Also on the NW side is the National Media Museum In Bradford.

I was there at Christmas and it was very good. A whole room of classic Amigas, Spectrum ZX-81s and every other variety of game console, available to play.

Probably more meaningful for a Brit as the History of TV stars all the programs you would remember.

They had a Dr Who Fan exhibition on when we were there.

I'm only 45 mins away from there!

If you're into old steam trains there's the train museum in York.

Knutsford?! I grew up there. Random place to visit unless you're a fan of Elizabeth Gaskell... have you got family there Dustybarn?

No, my wife just found a nice place there we could rent for a couple of days. We do sometimes end up in random places, but that's half the fun.

We visited the Coventry Motor Museum today and it was awesome, even though it's undergoing renovation. It was great to see Thrust 2 and Thrust SSC.

I didn't know you were actually in the UK at the moment! How long will you be here for?
