So its getting ever closer to MOT day for me. Does anyone know the rules/law on an unregistered car filling up at a petrol station? Or is it best to just make a few trips filling up a 10ltr jerry can?

I cant really find any info online and i guess it would be down to the actual petrol station maybe?

This would be done on the way to get its MOT.

That's a new one. I guess one way to find out would be to pull up and if they don't authorise the pump then you'll know.

FWIW I never had a problem when I was running my car without a front number plate on display.

Ok. Im guessing it should be fine then considering i know of one owner who doesnt run a front plate anyway.

My experience of running after my front plate 'fell off' - 1 in 5 petrol stations won't authorise the pump and you have to go in there and tell them your reg. 4/5 authorise the pump no problem.

Pay for the petrol first, then go fill up.

Can’t see that being a problem, even the front plate thing is bollocks, a motorcycle only has a rear plate, never had a problem

I went to fill my bike up in Liverpool before getting on the ferry for the Isle of Man. You HAVE to go in & pay then they set the pump to the value you paid. I’d never seen anything like it.
Then again it was Liverpool

It's like that in the states as well unless you pay at pump. But last time I went their pay at pump systems are so backward they don't take foreign cards so you still have to in and pay first
