Cheers for the video Dan!

Yes, as Dan said quickest I got was 16.5 but the car still isn't going quite right - about 90-95% I'd say. Get to 5500rpm and then the power just drops off so you have to short-shift. I fiddled with the mixture and found that it ran better leaner (two 16.5s) as opposed to richer (two 16.7s and a 16.9) than it was set at Eurotec, but I think that's only some of the problem. I'll take the car down to the local garage tomorrow and see what CO it's at for reference. If it's still way too rich that could explain it, although I'm pointing the finger at the injectors at the moment given the state of them at Eurotec.

I want to take the rocker covers off and check the tappets too, just make sure those haven't slackened off from the already generous clearances that Kent Cams gave me. I'm also going to check the fuel pump voltage too - see if I can gain some voltage by running a new earth.

Dan, could you upload the picture of the spark plug you took? We think these are probably OK and have burnt off the blackness from Eurotec but wouldn't mind a second opinion or two. If questionable I'll probably change them when I go in for tappets/injectors.

Conclusions about my Volvo engine swap and reprofiled cams: Inconclusive. Definitely quicker than it previously was, despite not running right, but not yet proved to be the way forward for engine swappers and cam fiddlers like me. And of course I haven't quite shaken off the Eurotec Slowest DeLorean tag yet. I'm still officially the slowest DeLorean up the Santa Pod strip :D

I'd put decent injectors back in it, and standard cams and valve clearances. But thats just me :)

Still not sure about the redness of the insulator....

Dan - I'm pretty sure it's not my imagination but when my car was previously running correctly it sounded a lot less rough than it does currently. So definitely worth checking the valve clearances I think, even though the roughness could be injectors. I don't regret my choice to do the cams, I'm very glad I had it running nicely at one point otherwise I really would!

And so... for completeness here is my best time from today (although not fastest terminal speed, strangely):

Gez 2011:
Reaction 2.49
60ft 2.30
330ft 6.77
1/8 ET 10.51
1/8 MPH 64.99
1000' ET 13.78
1000' MPH 74.78
1/4 ET 16.54
1/4 MPH 81.25

And compared to last year's times:

Gez 2010:
Reaction 0.36
60ft 2.29
330ft 6.81
1/8 ET 10.61
1/8 MPH 63.94
1000' ET 13.97
1000' MPH 72.90
1/4 ET 16.81
1/4 MPH 79.82

Dan 2010:
Reaction 0.33
60ft 2.37
330ft 6.72
1/8 ET 10.37
1/8 MPH 66.23
1000' ET 13.56
1000' MPH 76.29
1/4 ET 16.26
1/4 MPH 83.03

I assume your reaction wasn't really 2.49?!

Gez spotted someone with a tool box he could possibly reap and missed the green light

Yes it was. It was my last run, and there was no-one alongside me. So you get yourself nicely staged, the green light goes - and then just go when you're happy you've got the revs right for as good a takeoff as possible. The reaction isn't included in the 1/4 mile time - the clock only starts when you set off. So basically the reaction is only important if you're racing someone in the lane next to you, and want to beat them to the finish - as opposed to recording a faster 1/4 mile, which you could do if you set off 10 seconds after them.

I prefer to get a fast reaction time and a fast 1/4 mile time when I race ;)

I have never seen a red plug !
Only thing I can think of is, is that cylinder is running too lean and the plug is overheating.

Are all of the plugs red or just 1?
If it is just 1 then that cylinder could have a really bad injector.
