made up a few door pins today when I had an hour to spare . M12's and the pins receiving nuts changed. They are a few mill longer and work a treat. A tiny fraction of the price...... €5.00 No clucking or catching when the doors are closed. The stainless ones I found very poor ...they are shorter than standard & a silly fine thread that required doubling up on spacer washers to get them to receive the door lock.

I got mine elsewhere.. it absolutely sickens me when I purchase a part allegedly ''fit for the purpose intended'' and I have to modify or make it work just because there was no understanding of its application ...looks like some thought has gone into yours, what thread size are they , metric?

this weeks update.
12 items back from the painters ....and started offering them up to the car. Have gone with the standard fascia slate grey but got the guys to throw a pearl flip into the mix. Under low sunlight they are grey ...in full sun the fascias paint flips to different colours as the light passes over them I think it should compliment the look of the stainless Have to say Im pretty happy with the job.

Today was the first drive in the D although a local run down the road & back it was a great feeling to think the resto is now pretty much finished. The few small items to do , refit the door cards , fit the rad scoops , install radio , set up the suspension & wheel alignment, gas the air con, set the emissions, oh ye & give the panels a good clean....Then I intend to put lots of miles on it a turn it into a reliable driver.

The car to say the least was a difficult resto made worse by purchasing an uncomplete car. The electrics threw everything at me, poor connections , pins in wrong locations causing back feeding & all sorts. These faults took up soo much time thankfully everything now works the way it should.
Would I do a resto again right now Id say No Never , I would advise any newbe wanabe that is reading this & considering purchasing a full blown restoration to think again...and then...think again!! there is nothing glamorous about it. At times it wore my patience thin jobs that would take an hour on a modern car took a full day to get it right, NOTHING is straight forward as many on here will agree. This advice comes from a car mechanic with 26 years experience.

Finally my hat off to Dave (Inox) for taking on this Resto to begin with ...personally I would have run the other way. Daves first fix work to the suspension & chassis was top class everything glavanised & powder coated the main reason why I purchased the car from him.

This will be the last instalment on the resto as the wife has a 1 1/2 years worth of jobs around the house to be done so for now Adios
