Do you have any memories with regards to the 'Gold' cars ?

Yes mike, Went over to see them just as they were been finish off. We looked through the door at them, but we could not go in to see them. When they were finish, they where put on display for all the employees to see.

Hey I'm new here and I dont know if you guys still care about this topic or already know this or what not, but I think I may know a little about this car.

Up until around 20 years ago, in the Ford garage in Maidstone, Kent, the owner John Haynes had his own Delorean on display in the showroom. Although this was slightly before my time, my Dad (who went there many times to buy cars) assures me that it had a burgundy interior. He also said the car was there very soon after DMC collapsed when he went there for a job interview as a young man in the early 80's, thus it's very unlikely the owner had the interior kitted out in burgundy leather that quickly thus it could have been factory original.

John Haynes was well known to have a decent car collection, as he replaced the Delorean with an hard-top E-type (which I think is still there to this day) and even apparently had a Model T in the showroom before the stainless steel wonder. Looking at the second photo in the opening post, I can see vintage cars which do appear to be Model Ts. I wouldnt be suprised if Haynes quickly bought the Delorean as the company was in its final days as an addition to his collection, but then used it in his showroom in Maidstone in order to draw people in. This would also explain the extremely low mileage as it sat in place for nearly 10 years and was probably barely driven.

Even though I'm not treating this as fact, but since it was said the car was stored in Kent, and there are other vintage cars around it, I believe it could be John Haynes' car that my father saw in the showroom all those years ago :)

In late October 1981 George Lacy asked about timing for the introduction of new colours , Burgundy , Blue and Tan interior trimmed cars. My records show that orders were place for the material in early October 1981 to allow production to begin in the early part of 1982. Its my guess this car is one of the first cars with the new clours to show to Marketing before production was sanctioned. Built September 1981? Not much earlier.

Is the speedo KPH European - if so this would account for the side markers being different - how about the rear lamps?
The Receivers (Administrators) Cork Gully Coopers and Lybrand would have sold off all LHD federal spec cars to Consolidated International. It would be the liquidators Henry Butcher Ltd that would have sold (auctioned) the remaining cars that could not be shipped to the USA.

Any sign of a VIN?

Hi Tom

Thanks for the post, we are always interested!

I think your on the money there, the car is reportedly still in storage and still owned by Mr Haynes.

Hopefully I will get down that way soon and try to see if we cant get some more pics, and hopefully Nick a VIN!.. story goes that it was bought just before the auction commenced.
