Maybe we need an MOT thread?

Everyone could post how they get on etc, every year.

BPO is a Portsmouth DVLA office issued registration. (Mine's BPO831W) This would explain the General Motors as some of the staff are not too bright at that branch of DVLA!

They wouldn't believe my car was built in October 1981 as per the chassis plate because "someone may have altered it to make the car look newer and it might have been made BEFORE 1981"......suffice to say a long winded argument ensued. In the end they only agreed when the US pink slip showed year of manufacture as 81. Even then they registered it as 1st Jan as they thought October would still make the car seem newer than it might be  Hence the W reg.

DVLA are Great ;)

PASSED!

It wasn't due for another 3 weeks, but nothing like being organised.

Anyway:
- Remove/refurb/replace steering rack
- new track rod ends (customer's own)
- new steering UJ (customer's own)
- re-align
- replace ball joints (customer's own), clean up LCAs, press in retainer, etc.
- brake fluid
- new brake pads (customer's own)
- change spark plugs
- change oil and filter
- test coolant
- replace window washer pump
- adjust alt belt
- Torque wheel nuts to 110Nm
- £147 of welding to get it through an MOT
- wire brush/reseal large amounts of "coast conditioned" chassis (this one line doesn't do the work justice)
- do an MOT and thorough check-over
- pack all the old parts into little boxes, hoover up
- deliver back to me

How much do you reckon?

£450+VAT for all that, that's how much. Amazing service I thought, and I haven't got my hand dirty! ;)

Anyway - took it for a drive - certainly feels much better. Most, if not all, of the knocking seems to have gone, and the car stops when I press the brake pedal - can't be bad! :D And no badgers in sight. Carl seems to scared them all into hiding!

Wait a bit. Lug nuts torqued to 110Nm??? Isn't that a bit steep? I do em 80Nm and a about 45 degrees and they never fell off.

Bottom line: CONGRATULATIONS

Yes, the handbook says 95 - the workshop manual says 80, but i'll be f**ked if I'm going to try and undo them now with my muscles! :D

At least they're all the same.

Straight through, no advisories! Well after the obligatory handbrake adjustment! But I don't know what you're all moaning about - I've even used it since the last MOT - been to Ireland and back and eveything! :dmcdoors:
