Hi Nick, disconnected lamda, up to just over 25mpg in a not very scientific test over 40 miles. Seems about right for for razzing about on A roads B roads, single track!

Will report on run to Glasgow, then motorway run south.

Hello,

Ok, After disconnecting the lamda sensor, things got a lot better. 25mpg on A/B roads, 31mpg on the motorway, and maybe up to about 33mpg if I kept the speed down, so I am pretty happy with that.

The car went great for a total of c.1300 miles, so I am quite pleased, but of course there is now a list of things to attend to.

In no particular order:

Replace lamda sensor.... (do I have to??)
Change the remaining 5x injectors
Oil & Filter change
Little bit of welding under the brake master
Front suspension bushes in the LCAs are gubbed after about 300 miles...
Fusbox- just as bad as the day I picked it up in 2011
Steering column bush (replaced when I got it, but needing done again)

OK, that is all for now. I am not going to drive it for a while!!

So after this, 1300 miles round Scotland in April/ May, I didnt touch it until I did another 900 miles to the Motherland and back in September. I knew there was likely a bit of welding needing done so I went to see a very special man who helped me out.

When I bought the car 2011 the epoxy was soft following a clutch master leak. I removed the tank closing plate, washed it down and got the PoR-15 on. It was ok for 12 years or so...

On the lift we dropped the fuel tank and got a look around. It wasn't entirely pretty, but wasn't awful either.

So definately a bit of cutting and gluing to be done, hopefully in the New Year. Welder man can take it, drive in-drive out, and I said I wanted it for March. Here's hoping

On the way down last week in the cold the driver's door decided not to open from the inside. So I stripped the cards off, and will re-foam them before they go back on. On of the rod clips had broken, meaning the interior latch didn't operate. An easy fix, and I will take the opportunity to lube and check all that. And hopefully damp down some irritating rattles with sticky foam.

The passenger door had a habit of partially unlatching on long drives, but this might be due to a sticky bell crank from what I can se. Lube and re-check that...

Finally, I battered the wingmirror off a tree stupidly.

The mirror glass was ok, but out of position, and no amount of fucking about would get it to move. In the absence of anything else I made the mistake of stripping out the mirror motor mechanism. Jesus Christ, its like lego technics, but with the complexity of the large hadron collider in there!

It didnt like getting a knock, and the mechanism behind the glass had come out of position. After a significant amount of pissing about (the Delorean factor), I got it back together. Hours I wont get back, but I think its ok, and seems functional. I am going to set the mirror and leave it, and pretend I cant hear the little rattle inside the motor box....

Small victory, for now anyway.

Right, lets get those door cards tarted up!

And it must be due an oil change, thats a couple of thousand miles recently, and I cant remember the last time before that. Time to look back here...!

time to change that brake booster as well, mine looked like that and i thought it was just rusty on the outside no big deal, but it was stuffed, a new one made a world of difference and the brakes work now

Agreed, not a lot out there, but if you are careful they can be put back together... not fun tho, and requires a lot of care to keep everything in position.

And I also recently had to so same to the mirror switch?! In a remarkable twist of fate!

The drivers door stopped opening from the in inside, traced to a broken rod clip.

When I had the door cards off, I checked and lubed the mechanisms, and took the opportunity to re-foam the cards. Ended up (of course, with the D-factor) being a bigger job than anticipated, requiring getting the needle and thread out (learning how to "back stitch "- who fucking knew?!) before fucking about with fibreglass resin before the glue. Cunts.

Anyway, removing the mirror switch separated the casing... balls and springs.... yep.

So I found the springs, and got 1/8" stsinless ball bearings from ebay.

I fired a good number of balls across the kitchen before getting it back together. Then a little araldite and some G clamps for overkill to let it set

But, remarkably the switch works. And the mirror works.

I almost never use it, and won't be fucking about with it!! It has a limited life left! Isn't it funny how things that dont need doing, suddenly present themselves with a near impossible puzzle, or NLA parts, or just very expensive? I only wanted to change a door rod clip at about 90p !!!
