Thanks mate. Yeah, I am quite pleased. Probably lost a couple of inches, but I'm fine with it. I could carve into the sound proofing at the back, but I am not bothered. Fits tightly enough as is, and I am no chippie, so quite happy.

Yes, originals are disconnected. Silence was better than them!

A previous twat butchered the dash to put shit tweeters in. From the top... Eh?!! Awful things, but until I can get the dash re-covered, there is no point changing them and leaving big holes there.

I have some 4.5" (I think... maybe 5") speakers which are just too big, and I am not going to enlarge the holes any more. So I thought I'd build boxes into the footwells. Bit of a faff...

Cheers

I need to be a bit clever about mounting them in the footwells, as I don't want to screw into the tub.

Hopefully they'll fit without too much grief. Pics to follow at the weekend.

And they don't fit absolutely perfectly, but I am pretty happy with them.

They're a pretty snug fit under the dash. I didn't want to put any more holes in the tub, so picked up the dash mounting stud with a little bracket screwed into the top of the new mdf box.

The speakers are shallow mount 5" jobs.

And they sound good too  tho I am not by any stretch of the imagination an audiophile.

I bought a new power antenna, but am not quite sure about wiring it up... the existing wiring is yellow, with white and brown on a plug.

Is yellow an earth?? Brown is live, so white is the trigger?

I can get the internal relay in the antenna to click, but no movement. I suspect that the trigger wire on the head unit may not be connected? It is the "connect2" antenna. Did you have to modify the wiring from the oem relay??

Cheers,

Andy

This may help: http://deloreanblog.blogspot.co.uk/2012 ... ement.html

You bypass the OEM relay completely - I know Mike has run a new positive feed from the breaker that powers the central locking (with an in-line fuse)

Yep, that's correct.

The new antenna has the relay built in, so the old one is redundant.

You only need two of the three cables running back into the car, the trigger wire and the positive feed. As Arran mentioned, you pickup power for the antenna from the central locking circuit breaker. Earth is connected to the earth point on the rear wing.

The instructions should detail which wire is positive / earth/ signal.

Hi mike

Well, it has to be said, I thought them a bit tinny to be honest...!

But I took out silly little (terrible!) tweeters from the dash, and they are way better than them.

The model is "SXT5", and I think they are no longer available, tho the reviews I read online (ha! after I built the boxes!!) said they were ok.

Are you coming to Norfolk? Have a listen then. They are fine with the 6x9s but dont think they would be much good on their own? Maybe its just because the cones are pointing at my ankles, and the (movable) tweeters are angled up??

As I said, someone gave them to me, so I am not complaining.

Cheers

Shouldn't the new screw in otterstat be under the pipe? i.e. your pipe should be rotated 180degrees, I thought that was so in the event of an air lock or low coolant the sensor would still be submerged.

I may be wrong of course, just a passing observation.

I do like that speaker solution.
