VIN #16606 on its way to the UK

As a new member I just wanted to say hi and let you know that I'm in the process of importing VIN #16606 to London from Ohio. It should be here I understand by about Early August and then it's going to Chris Nicholson at PJ Grady for the refurb.

I'm writing a blog of the journey to get 16606 on the road in the UK, the link can be found in by signature. There you'll see all the pictures I presently have

I've only ever had a car, till now, to get from A to B, so owning a Delorean and catering to whatever maintenance requirements it has will be a challenge. I'm definitely no mechanic! That's where I'm hoping, being part of this club/forum, I will be able to get good advice as to what to do as and when "problems" arise.

I'm also interested it learn what other owners there might be in London, specifically north of the river, and are there any local meet-ups?

Cheers for now.

Gareth.

Hi Gareth, welcome and nice purchase

There are loads of us round London area, in fact you won't go far to not find a DeLorean owner these days.

I am about 20 mins from Enfield

Everyone here will be only too pleased to help

Looks like quite a challenge Gareth! What made you select that car out of interest? Where did you find it? Gez isn't far from you at all I don't think, N something, plus there are a couple of less active members around there, Trevor is in Greenford I think. Meet-up wise I'd definitely recommend coming along to the next "big" meet in October - you'll see lots of cars and get to find out plenty of tips in person (have a look at the thread for the June event to see what goes on in the car park): viewtopic.php?f=32&t=4759 - but there will be other little shows nearer to you I'm sure.

Thanks all for your replies.

Hi Arran, I settled on this particular vehicle after spending some time reviewing the cars for sale that I could find publicly on eBay and various other sites in a running condition. I noticed also how Chris Nicholson's name often came up with great comments and from there heard about PJ Grady. I contacted Chris and arranged a visit at which time we discussed this project car. All in all I concluded it would be better to get a car for import from the USA that Chris knew and could vouch for and then bring it up close to original condition. This latter option would also cost somewhat less than the cars that I had seen for sale, a couple of which I viewed but that always had one thing or another failing or in poor condition (in my novice opinion).

As to why I've decided to do this now, well I've always been in awe of the car since seeing the news reports of the DMC collapse and the John Delorean FBI Sting as a child. Then came BTTF a fews years latter and I was hooked. However it was always an interest that was always superseded by another, plus I never dreamt it was possible to own one these days. I then stumbled upon an eBay add for one and investigated further, realising that at my current stage in life it was now possible. So here I am now having purchased 16606 and waiting for Chris to pick it up on person with the DMC Midwest rep on 24th June to make ready for shipping before it starts its journey to PJ Grady.

Cheers.

Gareth.

Hi Gareth, welcome to the club!

Arran was right - I'm in N-something... Willesden Green, NW2 as it happens - whereabouts are you based?

Car looks interesting, not dissimilar condition to what mine was in back in the day!

Hi Gez,

I know Willesden, I'm in N14, Southgate, close to the tube station.

Whilst the car is shipping I now have the task to de-clutter the garage where 16606 will live.

Cheers

Gareth.

Whilst waiting for news of 16606 I have updated my blog with the known history of the car from purchase to the present. This has been based on my own detective work including finding satellite images of the car in the owner's back yard from 2005 to 2014.

See the blog at http://timemachine16606.tumblr.com.
