Sorry for the delay on updates.. It's been a bit of a Rollercoaster recently..

Anyways after checking out and removing the bad rusty fuel lines for replacement, a piece of the chassis was catching my eye.

I could see a dent/ stress crack it looked like on the double skin area behind the trailing arm. It didn't look right.

Well on closer inspection it was what I feared. Rust.

This however was not the galvanising fault I'll add. This was wholly on me. I did not open up every box section and this was the pay back.
I wrongly believed at the time that the galvanising would seep in everywhere and it ll be fine.

Well yes it will creep in everywhere but it can't molucelarly bond to the steel. It has to be absolutely clean metal. No rust/ dirt/oil/epoxy etc.

On reflection we did not have the likes of surface processing or prostrip at the time to properly get off everything in the box sections that you can't see. But nobody in Ireland has that service for such a big item like a delorean chassis and still don't even today I think..

The passenger side was not as bad but still needed serious attention.

Grinding or cutting galvanising is one thing but welding it is harder to do and very bad for your health I've learned.

so decided best thing to do was to strip the galvanising off the whole thing and see how bad the chassis is after and if there is any other areas hiding that need surgery...

Started cutting out the worst of it and then
getting it ready for blasting to have the metal nice and clean for welding..
