Had a spare hour so thought I would reseal my fuel filter again, to try and stop it leaking! plus have a go at the front rad support earth’s as well as swap out my inertia switch for one I got second hand (at least one job worked!)

First I noted the support bracket was snapped and not complete, then the bolt holding the Earth’s snapped! More drilling another day.

Inertia switch worked a treat though, looks like the old one was sticking and intermittent.

As for the fuel filter. I removed and reseated the 90dgree fitting with even more ptfe. Re connected and yet again fuel pee’d out!

Removed it from the car and noticed the fitting even though tighter than tight moved slightly in the housing. Hacksaw later to inspect inside, and the whole insert is separate from the aluminium housing so can spin round so leaks like a sieve!

For some reason, Bosch (and some others) did a version of the fuel filter that used a captive nut, as you are discovering, which in our case, literally can't seal at all. As well as getting the correct fuel filter (not a Bosch one, but one that has a one-piece construction) another modern "trick" is to either use a die to re-cut the threads in the elbow to a parallel (non-tapered) thread, or just buy a replacement 106990 elbow which is already a parallel thread - obviously all available at your favourite vendor - this way you can use a washer (as well as a bit of tape for comfort) for a much easier seal.

Thanks Arran I should have said this was not one of your filters but one thing got with some parts from a none DMC US vendor in 2020, never again!

I had the same problem with the captive nut type filter and ended up putting a DMCH one in (this was pre D-Go so don't shoot me). Anyone know if the houston ones are any good? It wouldn't surprise me if it was just an empty can

The D-Go one has always been the same type, i.e. a correct type (not a captive nut type). The DMCH one looks very similar to me, possibly even the same but just sprayed black.

Cant say ive had an issue with mine sealing but then i got mine from dgo. Straight swap, no fuss no muss, no coconuts

Well I am going double safe now. Arran’s new D GO fitting arrived today and I have just fitted that to a Mahle KL204 so should be good to go this time!
