Hi there, new to the forum but I found this whilst having a surf: http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll? ... 0671586251

How much does it cost to have a car transported back?

Phil.

Hi Phil and welcome!

By no means am I an expert, but you would tend to find Australian cars are a lot more expensive than their USA counterparts. Finding a low mileage car is not that uncommon - and especially in Australia, where there are fairly strict rules about driving LHD cars. I'm sure others on here can tell you horror stories about trying to actually use a car that has been sat for 25+ years. Would you plan on driving this car a lot?

Vin 15999 is listed as still being in Utah, USA, so I would guess it hasn't been in Australia for ages. I would also guess that the reserve is going to be HIGH!: http://www.justauto.com.au/justcars/buy ... d14177c096 - that is it listed elsewhere for £50,000!

Regarding importing - unfortunately Australia is no different to America. You are looking at shipping of around £2000, then V.A.T. of 17.5% added to the cost of the car and shipping.

Thanks Arran, my bubble has just been burst. One lives in hope that one day I may own one. (I also wished to fly on Concorde, another dream never fulfilled!!)

Regards,

Phil.

Sorry Phil!

Are you particularly looking for a museum quality car? Or have a budget in mind? Certainly if you're game, importing (from America) is the way to go - especially before the VAT increase.

I believe the mileage on a DeLoreans odometre probably does not reflect what the car has actually done

There is a Top Secret! way of checking a mileage reading. I may have to kill you after telling you this :D

Click here for how to get to the Lamda counter: download/file.php?id=1673 - basically a little box underneath the steering wheel with a 3 digit counter on it. Multiply the number by 300 and that is it!

However, as Thomas says, even that is not 100% if the angle drive is/was knackered. :?

It was on ebay last April and sold for $25,700, from Utah. So add in shipping from the States to Australia and import taxes and you may be looking at someone who needs to get US$35,000 back out of the car

Back then it had 544 miles, so the resale value has no doubt been ravaged by those extra 147 miles (an extra 27% more miles in only a year) :D

Ages ago I remember seeing a great website that listed the VIN numbers and prices of every D sold in the last few months - can anyone remember what it was, or if it is still going?
