Hi Steven,
The seller should give you the VIN if your a genuine buyer, and he's a genuine seller.

What we call the "VIN" is basically the last 5 numbers of the long VIN number. Good luck on the 5% VAT - I've never heard of that before! Normally it's 20% on the purchase price and shipping.
J Ryan's car is VIN 10406 and he used to own VIN 16240
DeLoreans used to be covered on a Binding Tariff Information (BTI) which reduced the VAT from 17.5% to 5 % due to the car being of 'Historical interest' unfortunatley many years ago now this was revoked. With the VAT at 20% there will also be a level of import duty to pay on the car too....

Unless you get a letter to say that the car was built in the UK, then the import duty is waived.

i have spoken to costoms and they said as it has been used by universal and signed by robert z and bob gale and i have letters from them i could get it as historical interest as it was linked as a film car for the pr on the 25th anniversary plus other things for universal, but i have to send them all the info 1st and they will give me the correct code in writing, otherwise 20% vat and £50 one of payment for duty
