Wanted - Delorean for under 16K

I'm 24 and it feels like it has taken a lifetime to save up that kind of money.

I'm in the market for something and would really love it if anyone here heard of any for sale and pointed me in the right direction.

I'd preferably like to spend around 14k as I wan't to keep some of that aside incase the car needs repairs.

Also what kind of money are people paying for insurance on these things? just so I have a rough idea of my monthly outgoings.

Thanks in advance :-)

Insurance will probably be less than your daily driver because it'll be a limited mileage classic car policy - as for how much at 24 I can't say as I got my first policy on a D at 30 - it was £180. I would probably expect £300ish but some others on here (Dan/James) will be able to help more...

Road tax is £200 a year - less than my Mini which is ridiculous really when you consider how efficient the two are relatively :)

Yep - I'd say Gez's figures are about right. And the tax difference seems fair to me, as I'm fairly sure Gez's Mini has infinitely more road use and created infinitely more emissions this year than the DeLorean! ;)

I pay about £300 for insurance - mine is higher due to no garage, and my profession.

It's been a while since I've seen a decent car for that sort of money - but it does happen, although expect to spend at least £2000 to get it up to a good standard, unless you plan on doing everything yourself.
You're not tempted by this one?: viewtopic.php?f=56&t=1870 - even Chris Nicholson seemed to think it could be good value, even after you've thrown another £7k on it - "I must admit surprising to see the black painted car back for sale, price seems right, for the work needed to put her right."

When I was 24 my Delorean policy was £1,900 with Adrian Flux. Being in Northern Ireland probably affected that though.

Now I am 27 my policy for my current Delorean is £386. The 25 mark makes a big difference.

Well, I'm tempted but the problem here is if one comes along at a decent price which is good to go, this looks like it will take alot of work and alot of months to get there.

and even then theres no promise spending another 7K on it will get the car up to MOT standards and not break down all the time and I really don't have the time to do any work/learn how to myself.

I'll contact chris and see what he says, he works at PJ Grady right?

Also thanks for the advice on insurance, so I can expect to pay between £200 and over a grand? :-P

I'll get in touch with a few insurance companies and see what they say!

Chris IS PJGrady - yes! - he posted his number in the "(SOLD) DeLorean - Ready To Go" thread.

Insurance companies are all listed here viewtopic.php?f=34&t=57

Most seem to use Adrian Flux, Richard Hoskins, and Hagerty

The standard is to have a "classic" policy, which restricts you to 3000 miles, and doesn't allow you to drive other cars on the same policy (which would be standard on "normal" car policies if you are over 25)
